This year’s theme was “Justice or Just Us” to raise awareness among the students about topics such as equality and fairness, environmental and social justice, and human rights. The artworks and videos developed by the professional judges and the winners together with their families and teachers were recognized and awarded in our banquet dinner in front of distinguished guests from Charlottesville/Albemarle County community. We also had the pleasure of having Ms. Susan Bro -mother of Heather Heyer (victim of the Charlottesville protests), as the keynote speaker.

Over the past years, this program has raised awareness on important social topics, brought community leaders together, and recognized and awarded the contest winners. This year, we even feel more the necessity of gatherings that promote peace, dialogue, mutual respect and inclusion after the unfortunate events that occurred in Charlottesville. The abominable events that we sorrowfully witnessed, have once again reminded us that we need to constantly strive to overcome bigotry and hatred. It is for this reason that the theme of The Peace and Dialogue Art and Video Contest this year is “Justice or Just Us”.
