DESCRIPTION:In order to honor our former board member`s legacy\, Rumi Forum set up a fundraiser\, “Trudy Conway Memorial Fund”\, to support Catholic Charities USA`s efforts to help our new Afghan neighbors. \nWith the support of our friends\, we raised $1\,500. \n——————— \nTrudy Conway was a much loved and widely accomplished author and professor of philosophy at Mount St. Mary’s University. She also served as a board member on the Rumi Forum. \nIn order to honor her legacy\, Rumi Forum would like to fundraise for a “Trudy Conway Memorial Fund” to support Catholic Charities USA efforts to help our new Afghan neighbors. \nTrudy Conway and her family have been an advocate and supporters for Catholic Charities for years. She truly believed in their mission to be on the frontlines; providing vital resources and services to children\, families\, and individuals; ensuring that they are fed\, sheltered\, and comforted in their greatest time of need.   \nWe ask that in lieu of flowers\, please honor Trudy by supporting this great organization and its support efforts.   \nThanks so much for your support… and please don’t forget to send this page to any friends you think might be interested in donating! \n

SUMMARY:Community Event: "Together We Rise Against Hunger" on World Food Day
DESCRIPTION:Rumi Forum and its partners have participated in the largest Rise Against Hunger packing event in the state of Virginia this year. 1\,000+ volunteers packed 165\,000 life-changing meals. Thank you for helping us reach our 5-year goal of packing 1\,000\,000 meals! \nThe meals we packed are shipping to Haiti. In August\, Haiti suffered massive devastation from a 7.2 magnitude earthquake followed only three days later by tropical depression Grace\, which dumped heavy rains on an already shaken country\, creating flooding and mudslides. \nMore than ever\, the people of Haiti need to know that we care about them\, we love them\, and we want to do what we can to show them compassion. SUMMARY:Scriptural Reasoning: "Created Human"
DESCRIPTION:Scriptural Reasoning (SR) is a practice where Christians\, Jews\, and Muslims study each other’s sacred texts. SR participants meet once a month to read short passages from their respective scriptures on a certain topic. Facilitated by a study leader\, each session is an opportunity to listen and share various perspectives. SR sessions help participants reflect on a curious list of topics within the Abrahamic tradition. The result is often a deeper understanding of others and one’s own scriptures\, as well as the development of strong bonds across faith communities. \n              Scriptural Reasoning – Introduction                    Reading Material: Created Human \n                       \nThis Month’s Study Leader \nSafi Kaskas has studied Abrahamic religions and lectured throughout the US and the Middle East on subjects related to Islam\, interfaith\, and reconciliation between Evangelicals and American Muslims. \nHe is a Senior Researcher in Islam and Multifaith Reconciliation with George Mason University\, Center for World Religions\, Diplomacy\, and Conflict Resolution. \nMr. Kaskas translated and published the Qur’an into simple easy to understand English in January 2015 and published The Qur’an with references to the Bible in January 2016. This book has 3000 references to the Old and the New Testaments. \nThe Italian translation to The Qur’an with references to the Bible was completed in April 2016 and was presented to his holiness Pope Francis during the same month. \nHe just completed compiling the first Hadith book/collection of Prophet Muhammad’s sayings on “The Kindest of Manners”. The book will be published during this year. \n  \nWe would like to thank Rose Castle Foundation for their permission to use their content.

He contributes to Foreign Affairs and America magazine. He has written from Asia\, Europe\, Latin America\, and the Middle East—experiences that provided a wealth of contacts with the notoriously tight-lipped papal diplomatic corps. He gathered rare insight in the Vatican Secret Archives\, which is not open to the public. \nFor over 20 years he has filed stories from countries in turmoil: Bosnia-Herzegovina\, Cuba\, Lebanon\, Kosovo\, Peru\, Turkey\, and Ukraine as well as from Hong Kong\, Korea\, and Taiwan. He has received numerous awards from the Catholic Press Association of North America and has written for secular publications ranging from Art & Auction to Le Figaro. \nGaetan received a Ph.D. in Ideology in Literature from Tufts University; a master`s degree from the Fletcher School of International Law and Diplomacy (MALD)\, and a license in Byzantine and Ottoman Studies from Sorbonne University in Paris (comparable to a BA). \nAbout the discussant\nMartine Miller is the Vice President of International Center for Religion & Diplomacy and a mediator and conflict transformation specialist with over 20 years of engaged experience—with communities\, governments\, regional bodies (i.e. EU\, AU\, and ASEAN)\, UN agencies\, a range of inter/national non-governmental organizations and academic institutions.
