Devastation and Desperation in
Haiti
We at the Rumi Forum are deeply saddened by the devastation
of the recent earthquake in Haiti. Our hearts and prayers go
out to those who have perished and those who have survived
this disastrous event. The Rumi Forum encourages it’s
friends to contribute in any way possible to the many aid
organizations working on the ground to help the people of
Haiti.
The Rumi Forum supports the work of
Helping Hands as they work tirelessly alongside many
other aid organizations to assist and support the survivors
of this catastrophic earthquake that has killed over one
hundred thousand people and left many more homeless and
without food and shelter. Click

In these difficult times the Rumi Forum wishes you good

Inspiring Words
Hatred paralyzes life;
love releases it. Hatred confuses life; love harmonizes it.
Hatred darkens life; love illuminates it.

Rumi Forum President Address's Delaware Legislature
Emre Celik, President of the Rumi Forum, presented to the
Members of the Delaware Legislature what was an historic
talk for the oldest intercultural dialogue organization
founded by the Turkish American community. During his
presentation Mr. Celik referred to the inspiration that the
Rumi Forum’s Honorary President Fethullah Gulen has provided
to numerous organizations around the world, sighting Mr.
Gulen’s vision as a catalyst for encouraging positive
interaction amongst all communities. The occasion was
organized by Delaware Legislative Member Michael Ramone and
the Rumi Forum’s Delaware Chapter. In addition, Delaware
Legislative Member John Kowalko spoke of his appreciation
for the efforts of the Rumi Forum in providing numerous
dialogue activities both in Delaware and in the Washington,
DC region.
Delaware is famous for being the first state of the United
States of America and the home of current Vice President Joe
Biden.

Rumi Forum Chapter Dinners Promote Community Dialogue
Over the past few months Rumi Forum’s Chapters in Virginia,
Maryland, Delaware and Kentucky have conducted several
dialogue dinners. These dinners gathered diverse groups of
people, including government and community leadership, to
discuss the fruits of intercultural dialogue and to foster
the exchange of ideas amongst community members. Such events
create an environment where participants have the
opportunity to improve mutual understanding and enhance
cooperation.

East West Encounters: The Gulen Movement
The Office of Religious Life at the University of Southern
California, Department of Theological Studies at the Loyola
Marymount University, International Education Center, Santa
Monica College, Department of Religious Studies at the
Humboldt State University, Department of Religious Studies
at Whittier College and Pacifica Institute sponsored a
conference on the general theme of an encounter between
“East” and “West” in the case of the Gülen Movement and the
movement’s contributions to education, interfaith and
intercultural dialogue, tolerance, and world peace.
The Objective was to explore the appeal, meaning, and impact
of Fethullah Gülen and the Gülen movement as exemplifying
approaches to education, dialogue, and peace that transcend
and mediate traditional distinctions between "East" and
West".
