More than 200 Hampton Roads residents gathered in Waterside Marriott on September 6th for Iftar dinner. The event was sponsored by Rumi Forum and Better Understanding Club of Old Dominion University.
Dinner is started by Adhan, call for prayer, and guests enjoyed the dinner. Following the dinner, Dr. Ali Yurtsever, President of Rumi Forum, gave the key note speech.
Dr. Geneva M. Walker-Johnson, Dean of Students and Chief Student Affairs Officer at Old Dominion University expressed her thoughts about the interfaith dialog and importance of mutual understanding.
Dr. Laura Forman, Dr. Fran Hassencahl, Rev. Fred McCall, and Mr. Larry Barclay expressed their feelings about the dinner, thoughts about the interfaith dialog and their impressions about the Turkey trip.
Dinner ended with Rumi Forum Hampton Roads Interfaith and Inter-Cultural Dialog Awards. Rumi Forum recognized two distinguish Hampton Roads residence for their great contributions for dialog and mutual understanding:
Dr. Paul Rasor, Director of the Center for the Study of Religious Freedom; Professor of Interdisciplinary Studies at Virginia Wesleyan College and Ms. Lesa Clark, Assistant Dean for the Office of Intercultural Relations at Old Dominion University.
