Summer 2017 Peruvian Study Trip!
The Rumi Forum is proud to announce a new study trip opportunity for Summer 2017. This program will be held in Peru encompassing the cities of Lima and Cusco.
Applicants many choose their preferred date(s) of travel that best suits their schedule, however, only one date will be selected at the conclusion of the application period, determined by interest:
August 6th – August 13th
August 20th – August 27th
Throughout this study trip, applicants will be immersed in cultural activities that celebrate local customs and traditions. In addition, this travel program will create the opportunity for participants to meet with civil society organizations, government officials, journalists, academicians and think-tank scholars, among others, and gain an insight into some of the following issues in Peru:
- Social harmony, faith, and cultural issues
- Peace building and conflict resolution
- Economic development
- Democratization, human rights and freedoms
- Women’s issues
- Minority issues
- Education
- Economic, political and social reforms
- Relations with the U.S. and regional issues
Trip Eligibility and Conditions
To be eligible to apply for the 2017 Peruvian Study Trip, the applicants’ work or field of study should reflect the following issues:
Regional focus: Latin America
Issues: Interfaith and social harmony, peace building and peace making, sociology and social movements, NGOs and civil society, religion and culture, international security, geostrategy, global strategy, conflict management/resolution/prevention, international affairs, international development, security studies, defense, terrorism/counter-terrorism, democracy and human rights, national security, women’s and minority issues, journalism, energy, politics and political economy.
Who will be considered?: Individuals from academia (including Ph. D. students) think tank and policy experts, media and communications, government and diplomacy advocates, faith and cultural organizations, NGOs and non-profits and broader community leaders

Applications must be residents OR be based in one of the following areas: Washington D.C., Virginia, North Carolina, Delaware, and Maryland.
Cost: The per person cost of this trip is $ 2,200.00 which includes transportation, breakfast, lunch and dinner, all hotels (3-4 stars), the air tickets to Lima / Cusco / Lima via Peruvian, a professional guide in English, expedition train service, and all entrance tickets. Accommodations at hotels will be twin share (single rooms are available at a higher price).

The application will collect basic information about the applicant to include professional and academic experience, educational background; honors and awards received; and extracurricular and volunteer activities. We will also request personal information (name, address, phone, email).
