Interviewer:    July 28th have [IB]

Person:    Right so if it is kind of effective and its going to be applied in other estates as well. What’s the impact of this [IB] well in the future and how about the other minorities how are they going to be affected?

Dr. Werz:    Let me just run thing and then I turn over to a [IB] who knows this subject better than anyone else. I think it’s not the reintroduction of slavery is not eminent. So I would be careful saying this that this is being repeated because this law is likely to be challenged its likely to be unconstitutional and if the Latinos and Arizona get their act together with the next election they’ll be I mean changes in that state because its clear that people if they feel that they are affected by this law they have to make their point politically and they have to organize and make their voices heard. But I think the just a broader point I think the question really is why in the early 21st century here in the United States there is this vigorous movement that people hate Washington, are uncomfortable with what has among the best of the American traditions namely immigration and what I’m always I ask myself what do people especially in a team party meeting movement mean when they talk about the real America like Sarah Palin? Do they mean America before 1957 [IB]? If you see the people that assemble there you sometimes could have the impression cause it’s fairly wide, its fairly old it’s fairly male, there some changes of course in there. But I think the question really is what is this about? And my hunch is that this is basically the last remnant of people that have the illusion that there is something like ethnic or other integrity and that there is core of America that they identify with that these people think they own.

Like the real America. I come from Alaska but I’m asking you I want to reintroduce a real American in Washington. And I think that [IB] is interesting in itself because it shows that it is it is basically it’s a narcissistic world view to a certain degree that is very uncomfortable less with Washington but with the way the United States looks and the fact that this is the 21st century and United States allows you a glimpse into the future of many other societies. And my best guess would be that this will fade out as many other nativists or no nothing these movements have been fading out after five ten or 15 years. Its not pretty, it’s not really a nice discussion to have but I cant really imagine that this is going to gain traction and be with us for a longer time. But on [IB] I’d be also interested in hearing your take [IB]

Octavia:    Sure if I come out I appreciate the opportunity to come on this. It’s the United States is unique as one of our guests eluded to in that it changes with every generation. It is not the same country that we live in today its not the same country I grew up in the 80s with family ties and the [Cosby] show. Nor is it in the same country as it was in the 60s or 70s with the Brady bunch and leave it to be. Well and I think of formative years the world view is defined in those particular agents when we as in our education. But I have strong faith in the education system in the United States. Why? Because the education system in the United States is based on integration. And I look at in my personal case being a son of a Mexican immigrant having grown up in a state as monolithic as Kansas was or continues to still be even though it is changing. But you know [IB] by teachers there of the values of the society being active verses in civic society obviously being respectful to the flag and so forth.

So I have strong faith that the education system especially today’s students will grow up very [cognicent] of that diversity is a source of strength and unity and they will not adopt any attitudes from elder generations. I strongly believe that your society especially in the private sector has recognized the importance to embrace diversity and diversity thought as we our organization promote. And that means this that your life experiences or your education triumphs if you will the color of your skin. Cause I mean I think we are defaulted in that way to now value an individuals perspective or individuals life experience and points of view to really help problem solve. And I give the example constantly of cell phones the pink cell phones that we often see women carrying well that was that came as a result of a meeting of engineers of one particular telephone company and there is only one female engineer and I believe she was South Asian background who said well what about if we have offered [IB] and of course everyone else in the room laughed…
