On April 7, 2019, Rumi Forum and Little River United Church of Christ hosted an interfaith group for the film screening of “The Sultan and the Saint” followed by a discussion.
Two men of faith, one a traveling Christian preacher, the other the ruler of a Muslim Empire, bucked a century of war, distrust, and insidious propaganda in a search for mutual respect and common ground. It is the story of Francis of Assisi and the Sultan of Egypt, and their meeting on a bloody battlefield during the period of Christian- Muslim conflict known as the Crusades.
This remarkable encounter and the commitment to peace of the two men behind it sucked the venom out of the Crusades and changed the relationship between Muslims and Christians. Featuring dramatic reenactments and interviews with renowned scholars, this amazing story is brought to life. Join us to learn about this remarkable exchange and the great risk they took for peace.
